Nyack Public Schools - Nyack, New York The High School Principal serves as the instructional, cultural, and operational leader of Nyack High School. This role ensures a rigorous, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The principal leads high-quality curriculum and instruction, cultivates a culture of belonging, and partners with students, families, staff, and the community to ensure equitable outcomes for all learners. The principal reports to the Superintendent. Responsibilities Lead the implementation of rigorous curriculum aligned with New York State Learning Standards and district priorities. Promote effective teaching practices through observation, coaching, and professional learning aligned with the Danielson Framework. Support district initiatives including MTSS, literacy and numeracy improvement, culturally responsive teaching based on the NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework and implement the NYS Portrait of a Graduate. Ensure equitable access to advanced coursework, career pathways, and college readiness opportunities. Lead a culture of data-informed decision-making using assessments, progress monitoring, and instructional data to close achievement gaps. Provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional programs in collaboration with directors and department chairs. Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful school climate where all students feel valued and supported. Promote restorative practices and positive behavioral supports aligned with the district’s Code of Conduct. Provide leadership in establishing and enforcing regulations for student behavior. Ensure student voice and leadership are integrated into school culture. Lead initiatives that strengthen student belonging, engagement, and well-being. Supervise programs designed to support students’ physical, mental, and emotional health. Establish programs and activities that foster positive relationships among students and between students and staff. Work collaboratively with staff and community stakeholders to address disparities in student outcomes. Recognize the need to build a staff that reflects the diversity of the school community; assist in the selection, retention, evaluation, reassignment, and promotion of all building personnel. Lead professional learning communities focused on student achievement and instructional improvement. Foster a collaborative professional culture built on trust, growth, and shared leadership. Build strong partnerships with families and community organizations. Ensure transparent communication and meaningful opportunities for family engagement. Meet regularly with parent councils and school support groups. Collaborate with community agencies on issues related to student welfare and school-community partnerships. Oversee daily school operations including scheduling, safety, supervision, and resource management. Provide leadership in the preparation of the school building budget. Maintain a fiscal accounting system consistent with district procedures. Maintain an accurate inventory of all equipment and supplies. Assist in evaluating the condition of the building, grounds, and equipment. Lead emergency preparedness and safety planning. Ensure compliance with NYSED regulations, district policies, and Board of Education priorities. Implement the building technology plan. Provide leadership and structure for meeting the day-to-day operational needs of the building. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee. Required Qualifications New York State School Building Leader (SBL) certification Minimum of 3 years Building Administrative leadership experience Demonstrated ability to lead instructional improvement and school change Strong knowledge of NYS Learning Standards (9–12), graduation requirements, accountability systems, and the NYS Portrait of a Graduate Preferred Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience Experience working in a diverse school community Strong background in data-informed instruction and MTSS Demonstrated commitment to equity and culturally responsive leadership Compensation Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience. Range $176,693 - $230,194 (Annual wage based on the NAA contract.)
