The North Syracuse Central School District is seeking applications for a probationary Embedded Social Worker at Allen Road Elementary School in an 8:1:1 Setting.Applicants must hold NYS certification.JOB DESCRIPTION BELOW:The Embedded 8:1:1 School Social Worker is a dedicated, building-based professional who provides intensive, hands-on support to students and staff within the 8:1:1 special class setting. This role is best suited for a social worker who is skilled in behavior intervention, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is committed to supporting students with significant social-emotional and behavioral needs.The Social Worker is primarily assigned to the 8:1:1 program and plays a critical role in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). The position requires consistent presence within the classroom environment and active collaboration with instructional and support staff to promote student regulation, safety, and engagement. Key Responsibilities:Provide direct counseling services aligned with IEPs and BIPs, delivered both in-person and virtually when appropriateSupport students exhibiting complex behavioral, emotional, and regulatory needs through Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 behavior management strategiesCollaborate closely with the school psychologist, special education staff, and administration to ensure cohesive and responsive student supportAssist with staff coaching and training in district-supported behavior and social-emotional programsSupport crisis response, de-escalation, and problem-solving within the 8:1:1 setting as neededConnect students and families with appropriate community resources and referrals, maintaining a strong home-school partnershipActively identifies, coordinates, and facilitates appropriate school-based and community referrals to support students and families.Supervision & Collaboration:Supervised by the building principal, Director of Pupil Services and Director of Student ServicesWorks as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting both students and staff in a high-needs educational environmentIdeal Candidate:Strong foundation in behavioral intervention, trauma-informed practices, and special education systemsAbility to remain calm, flexible, and solution-focused in emotionally demanding situationsComfortable working in a role that requires consistent presence, collaboration, and problem-solvingValues teamwork, clear communication, and shared responsibility for student successReporting:The Social Worker is supervised by the building principal for all building-level activities, as well as the Director of Student Services and Director of Special Education for district perspectives.Responsibilities and duties* may include (but are not limited to):Facilitate counseling related to BIPs and/or IEPs (both in-person and virtual)TCIS-2 training and modeling, train the trainerConduct Life Space Interviews and facilitate conflict resolution interventions Student skill building with trained staff Facilitate of various team and/or committee meetingsSupport Crisis responseAssist in Creating/Implementing FBAs in collaboration with Psychologist; Psychologist takes the leadImplement of BIPs in collaboration with Psychologist (Social Worker takes lead and psychologist may support)Compile BIP data into presentable and actionable formatProvide De-escalation assistance and training of staffFollow all mandated reporting regulations including CPS reporting, and documentationProvide Turn-key training of district-approved strategies, interventions, workshops, etc. Provide systematic progress monitoringProvide ongoing progress/case notesReview of BIMAS data as well as sharing data trends with staff and implementing strategiesSupport will be provided for students outside of the 8:1:1 program on an as needed basis, and to meet district and/or building level needs. * Additional duties as assigned by building principal and/or district administration.
