Position OverviewThe North Syracuse Central School District is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our Special Education team. The successful candidate will provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments across various grade levels (PreK–12), ensuring access to the general education curriculum and fostering independence in educational settings.ResponsibilitiesProvide individualized and small group instruction to students with visual impairments in academic, functional, and adaptive areas.Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments.Develop and implement IEP goals and accommodations related to vision needs.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including classroom teachers, special educators, related service providers, and families.Provide consultation on adaptive equipment, assistive technology, Braille instruction, and orientation & mobility (in collaboration with O&M specialists).Support school staff in implementing instructional strategies for students with visual impairments.Ensure materials are accessible, including adapting print, digital formats, and instructional materials.Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and maintain appropriate documentation and reporting.QualificationsRequired:New York State Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Students with Disabilities - Visual Impairment).Knowledge of visual impairments and their educational implications.Experience or training in Braille, assistive technology, and accessibility tools.Strong communication and collaboration skills.
