The North Syracuse Central School District is seeking applicants to fill the position of Director of ElA and Elementary Education (Pre K - 6) located at the Administrative Office Building.Salary - $129,907 - $153,203 Depending on ExperienceSchool Distict Leader Certification required.Job Description:Director of ELA and Elementary Education (PreK-6) Job Title:Director of ELA and Elementary Education (PreK - 6) Reports To: Superintendent of Schools Supervises: Elementary Principals, NSEEP Principal, UPK Coordinator, Instructional Coaches, and Elementary Staff as designated Status: Full-Time Tenured Track PositionLocation: District Office Job PurposeTo provide visionary leadership and support for the continuous improvement of Pre-K through Grade 6 educational programs. The Director of ELA and Elementary Education oversees curriculum development, instructional practices, assessment systems, professional development, and school improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with New York State standards and the North Syracuse Central School District’s mission and goals. Key Responsibilities:Curriculum and Instruction Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of PreK-6 English Language Arts curriculum. Coordinate with other directors on shared responsibility areas for Math, Science, and Social Studies curriculum (PreK-6).? Oversee the Instructional ELA Coaches PreK-6 to ensure alignment of instructional practices with curriculum standards. Monitor implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies and resources for early literacy and content area instruction. Assessment and Monitoring Oversee the use and integrity of the AimsWeb screening system for universal screening PreK-6. Co-manage the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS) with appropriate stakeholders. Manage the administration and compliance of NYS Testing Grades 3–6. Supervise Kindergarten Screening and Registration processes. Oversee implementation and fidelity of MTSS/RTI practices across PreK-6 settings.Program Development and Oversight Oversee Early Education Programs, including Universal PreK Registration and Early Childhood Alliance collaboration. Supervise the Early Literacy Volunteers program and ensure quality and consistency across buildings. Manage Field Trips in alignment with curriculum and safety protocols. Supervise Elementary Report Cards—development, revisions, and training. Personnel and Supervision Supervise and evaluate the performance of NSEEP Principal, Elementary School Principals, and the UPK Coordinator. Oversee the placement and support of Student Teachers PreK-6. Coordinate the Mentor Program (PreK-6) for new teachers. Participate in New Staff Orientation (as assigned). Participate in the interview and selection process for relevant personnel. Facilitate consultant teacher assignments and shared responsibilities as needed. Professional Development and Support Coordinate PreK-6 staff Professional Development in ELA and shared content areas. Manage shared participation and documentation in Frontline/Professional Growth. Monitor and support Conference/Travel – Instructional requests related to curriculum and professional learning. Participate in Administrative Team Meetings and Cabinet Meetings to ensure alignment of district goals with instructional practices. Other Duties Oversee and approve textbook adoptions and related instructional materials for PreK-6. Co-plan and facilitate agendas for Administrative Team Meetings. Coordinate district-level programs such as the Spelling Bee (shared responsibility). Support class size planning and adjustments in collaboration with other directors. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal requirements related to elementary instruction and assessment. As assigned by the Superintendent of Schools Qualifications Valid New York State School District Leader (SDL) certification. Minimum 5 years of successful experience in elementary teaching and/or administration. Data-supported, proven leadership in improving ELA outcomes Extensive experience in curriculum development, instructional improvement, and staff supervision. Strong knowledge of early childhood and elementary education pedagogy and assessment systems. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
