The North Syracuse Central School District is seeking applications for a Family Engagement Specialist at Roxboro Road Elementary School.JOB DESCRIPTION BELOWLocation: Roxboro Road Elementary School, North Syracuse Central School District Reports to: RRE School Principal, Director of Diverse Learning FLSA Status: Full-Time, Classified Position Type: 10-Month, Non-InstructionalOverview:Roxboro Road Elementary School, a Title I school with a high percentage of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch, is seeking a dynamic and culturally responsive Family Engagement Specialist. This role is pivotal in fostering meaningful relationships between the school and families to support student achievement, social-emotional growth, and the overall well-being of our school community.Key Responsibilities:1. Family Outreach & Communication:Serve as the primary liaison between families, school staff, and the community to ensure open, consistent, and clear communication.Proactively reach out to families to share important school information, events, and resources through various communication platforms (email, phone calls, newsletters, social media).Conduct home visits as necessary to build strong connections with hard-to-reach families.2. Family Support & Advocacy:Provide assistance and guidance to families navigating school services, including academic, social-emotional, and behavioral support systems.Identify barriers that may prevent families from engaging fully with the school and work to provide solutions, including connecting them with local resources such as food banks, housing assistance, and healthcare services.Organize workshops and training sessions to empower families on topics like understanding school policies, supporting student learning at home, and accessing community resources.3. Event Planning & Coordination:Coordinate family engagement events such as open houses, parent-teacher conferences, workshops, and cultural celebrations aimed at increasing parental involvement.Collaborate with school staff to plan events that meet the needs of diverse family backgrounds and schedules.Facilitate transportation, child care, and interpretation services for families to remove participation barriers.4. Data Collection & Reporting:Collect and analyze data on family engagement to assess needs, measure the effectiveness of strategies, and report findings to school leadership.Assist in tracking student progress and engagement in relation to family involvement efforts.5. Collaborative Partnerships:Work with community organizations to enhance the resources available to families and strengthen school-community ties.Partner with teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure a cohesive approach to family and student support.6. Culturally Responsive Engagement:Foster an inclusive environment by recognizing and valuing the diversity of the school community.Ensure that all communications and engagement opportunities are culturally relevant and accessible to all families, including providing translation and interpretation services as needed.Qualifications:Required:Bachelor’s DegreeExperience working with diverse populations, including economically disadvantaged families.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with families, staff, and community members.Knowledge of local community resources and services.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends, to accommodate family schedules.Preferred:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, social work, community outreach, or a related field.Experience in a school setting, particularly in a Title I school or similar environment.Bilingual (Spanish or another language relevant to the school community).Key Competencies:Relationship Building: Strong ability to establish trust and rapport with families from diverse backgrounds.Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying challenges and developing strategies to overcome barriers to family engagement.Cultural Competence: Respect for and understanding of diverse cultures, and the ability to engage families in a way that is inclusive and respectful.Adaptability: Flexibility in approach to meet the varying needs of families and the school community.Collaboration: Willingness to work as part of a team with school staff, students, families, and community partners.Physical Demands:The employee must be able to conduct home visits and attend off-site community events, requiring reliable transportation.
