The North Suyracuse Central School District is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Fine Arts.School Disrict Leader Certification is requiredPlease provide letters of recommendation.Position Description:The Director of Fine Arts is responsible for coordination, supervision and evaluation of all district Fine Arts and Co-Curricular programs for the North Syracuse Central School District students. This position is also responsible for the oversight of program budgets and staffing for Music and Art. The Director of Fine Arts has shared responsibility for conducting APPR evaluations for instructional staff. The Director of Fine Arts reports to the Superintendent of Schools. Key Responsibilities:1. Supervisory/Evaluative Responsibility:1.1 Music Staff1.2 Art Staff1.3 Co-Curricular Advisors2. Development and review of relevant policies for the Board of Education.3. Organize and run the yearly Festival of the Arts event.4. Prepare budgets for areas of responsibility.5. Assist in the recruitment and selection of Fine Arts teachers.6. Coordinate the interview and recommendation process for candidates for appointment to the faculty.7. Advise administration on the preparation of assignments and schedules for Fine Arts teachers so that there is an equitable distribution of their time in the various school buildings in the district.8. Supervise and evaluate the work of all Fine Arts personnel within their particular discipline.9. Orient new Fine Arts teachers to the district.10. Develop an in-service training program for department members.11. Design, coordinate, and articulate the Fine Arts program K-12.12. Provide vehicles for communication among the Fine Arts staff.13. Determine the course of study in Fine Arts activities according to the requirements of the State Education Department.14. Coordinate, in cooperation with teachers, Fine Arts instruction with other areas of the curriculum.15. Develop the cooperation and coordination of teachers on all levels of the district so that there is unity of effort and continuity of program.16. Design, coordinate and implement long-term and short-term program goals consistent with the District's annual goals.17. Conduct monthly meetings of the Fine Arts staff.18. Establish, with the teaching and administrative staff, consistent operational procedures for the district visual/performing arts program.19. Assume the responsibility for all performances/exhibitions presented by the Fine Arts Department. All such performances/exhibitions shall be approved by the Director of Fine Arts.20. Coordinate student participation in district, county, state and national festivals and competitions.21. Coordinate activities and programs involving music and sports with the Director of Athletics.22. Provide information to teachers regarding the availability of new materials and techniques.23. Maintain a complete up-to-date inventory of all district-owned equipment, supplies and materials.24. Prepare specifications and approve the selection and purchase of equipment.25. Assume responsibility for equitable distribution of supplies, materials and equipment.26. Approve all purchase requisitions and recommend to the Associate Superintendent for Business Services the payment of bills incurred by the Fine Arts Department.27. Supervise test development within the Fine Arts Department.28. Maintain files of information pertinent to the fine arts program.29. Serves as a consultant in renovation or new facility planning for fine arts instruction or performance.30. Encourage teacher growth by actively directing their participation in professional organizations and attendance at conferences, workshops and symposiums.31. Approve and assume responsibility for all trips by the Fine Arts Department in accordance with district policy and procedures.32. Encourage the community to appreciate the quality of the Fine Arts program.33. Encourage, promote and coordinate parent and community involvement in the development of the arts program.34. Attend appropriate district and committee meetings as assigned.35. Manage the Arts in Education CoSer through OCMBOCES.36. Perform such other duties as requested by the Superintendent of Schools.
