The North Syracuse Central School District is seeking applicants to fill 2 - Director of Special Education Positions.Must hold NYS School District Leader CertificationPlease provide at least 3 letters of recommendationPosition Description: The Director of Special Education will work collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning in the coordination of elementary and/or secondary Special Education services. The Director shares responsibility for the supervision of elementary and/or secondary special education staff. Additionally, this position monitors the need for teaching assistants at all levels, shifts staff to meet those needs and makes recommendations to cabinet regarding changes in teaching assistant staffing. This position has shared responsibility for chairing SERT and CSE meetings across the district. The Director has shared responsibility for conducting APPR evaluations for instructional staff. The Director reports to the Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. Key Responsibilities: 1. Oversees the following areas: 1.1 Teaching Assistants 1.2 Special Education Teachers 2. Pre-K 12 Instructional Program2.1 Oversees IEP writing for special education students for assigned grade levels, ensuring uniform language, expectations, instructional and behavior planning and special service recommendations 2.2 IEP session notes liaison to BOCES 2.3 Oversee training and professional development for Teaching Assistants for assigned grade levels 2.4 Provide instruction and support in co-teaching for special education staff 2.5 Assist Principals in providing instructional support to Special Education staff under their supervision 3. Maintains records of the placement of Teaching Assistants and oversee their efficient placement to meet the IEP requirements of all IEP, 504 and regular education students as needed 4. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools 5. Provide parent education/advocacy regarding Special Education programming, CSE and annual review Shared Responsibilities1. Supervision of Special Education Secretaries2. Supervising the creation and maintenance of IEPs3. Chairing SERT meetings4. Chairing CSE meetings5. Assist Principals in the selection and hiring of staff in areas of responsibility6. Collaborate to develop annual department budget7. Provide building personnel with information of laws and regulations on a continuous basis8.
