The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for a probationary Groundsworker.ASSIGNMENT: District Wide; 12 months per year; 40.00 hours per week.GENERAL INFORMATION: This position involves responsibility for performing a variety of performing a variety of routine, semi-skilled maintenance tasks in connection with the upkeep of grounds around a particular building or park. The work is performed under general supervision of a superior who outlines policy, with leeway allowed for performing tasks. Direct supervision may be exercised over one or more subordinate laborers. Does related work as required.The position of Groundsworker is a non-competitive Schenectady County Civil Service position. Candidates must meet Civil Service requirements for appointment.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Mows lawns and cares for flower beds, walks and drives;Trims hedges, trees and shrubs;Rakes leaves;Shovels snow;Cleans gutters and catch basins;Removes ashes and tends fires;Performs a variety of grounds maintenance tasks;Performs a variety of related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:One year of experience in grounds maintenance work.
