The Niskayuna Central School District has an anticipated opening and is now accepting applications for a probationary Director of Student Support Services K-6. ASSIGNMENT: 11 Month SUMMARY: The Director of Student Support Services provides district leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Niskayuna School District’s Special Education program. The goal is to plan and maintain a sound, well-articulated Special Education program by working with pupils, teachers, administrators, and parents.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: • Administers special education programs within the district and with BOCES, including summer school. • Conducts in accordance with Education Law, NYS Commissioner’s Regulations, and School District policy, the referral, evaluation, parent notification, individualized education program (IEP) development, placement, and annual and triennial review process. • Coordinates the evaluation and placing of students with disabilities into appropriate instructional settings and programs, with required related services. • Chairs the Committee on Special Education (CSE) with appropriate guidelines including the maintenance of agents and formal minutes. May chair Committee on Pre-School Special Education (CPSE), if needed. • Oversees and implements all components of Individual Education Plans (IEP’s). • In conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, monitors all budgetary matters related to special education costs at the local, BOCES, State and Federal level. • Interprets and supports state, county and federal regulations. • Collaborates with principals, teachers, supervisors, and other relevant agencies. • Ensures equal access to all district opportunities for all students. • Establishes regular communication links with building Student Support Services Teams, building administrators, county CSE chairs, consortium chairs, pre-school agencies, county agencies, BOCES, special education teachers, and related service providers. • Completes reports associated with Special Education. • Conducts meetings of assigned special education faculty and staff. Human Resources District Office. • Confers with the principals in the coordination of state testing programs for CSE students. • Supervises and evaluates special education Teaching Assistants in conjunction with principals. • Confers with the principals in the review of testing needs, test score analysis and student performance. • Works with Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services to report test data to the state, as needed. • Establishes linkages with various offices and agencies beyond the school that may provide specialized help to student and parents. • Supports the development of the special education department, as needed. • Provides continual professional development for Student Support Services staff. • Provides coaching and professional development on regulations and instructional practices. • Performs other duties, as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: • Current New York State Certification as School District Leader or School District Administrator • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching or student support services related field • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a school district administrator • Knowledge of Part 100, 200, 201 Regulations and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation ActNOTE: Selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001 The Niskayuna Central School District is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.
