The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for a Senior Account Specialist. ASSIGNMENT: District Office; 12 months per year. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for posting, computing, verifying and maintaining financial accounts and records. This position differs from that of Account Clerk because of the degree of responsibility involved. An employee in this class also performs a variety of related clerical and data entry duties. The work is performed under general supervision of a higher-ranking employee, permitting leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Direct supervision may be exercised over one or more clerical employees. Performs related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: • Using specific accounting program software, posts to journal or ledger accounts from vouchers, payrolls, purchase orders, allotment schedules, receipts and other original entry media; • Prepares and issues bills for payment and follows up on payments not received from vendors; • Encumbers purchase orders and contracts; • Prepares statistical accounting reports, compiles statistical data; • Reconciles accounts and statements, tracks budget changes, revenues, expenses and journal entries to subsidiary ledger; • Compiles payroll data, prepares and checks payroll; • Reviews and checks account keeping records and reports for arithmetical and clerical accuracy; • Audits varied accounts, claims and records the preparation or related reports; • Assists in budget development, projection of expenditures and revenue estimates; • Maintains vehicle and property insurance schedules and assists with the allocation and payment of premiums; • Processes semi-annual Serial Bond principal and interest payments and Bond Anticipation Note payments; • Assists with the investment and management of idle operating, special revenue, capital project, and reserve account cash; • Performs a variety of related tasks as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field and four (4) years of experience in maintaining financial accounts and records; OR B. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience as defined in (A) above; OR C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
