The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for a Maintenance Mechanic (Carpenter). ASSIGNMENT: Districtwide: 12 months per year DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves the responsibility for the efficient performance of a variety of carpentry and cabinet making tasks that require a good knowledge of the trade. General supervision is received from a higher level supervisor with considerable leeway allowed for planning the details of the work. Direct supervision may be exercised over a variety of skilled and non-skilled employees. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Repairs cabinets, desks, chairs, tables, and other office equipment;Repairs doors, window frames, floors, and stair rails;Constructs and installs cabinets, bookcases, shelves, closets, platforms, posts, bulletin boards and benches;Replaces window glass and cords and repairs window frames;Builds scaffolds;Makes and repairs screens;Sands and refinishes floors, desks, woodwork, chairs, and tables;Builds forms for concrete work;Operates woodworking machinery such as lathes, planners, sanders, borers and rip, cross cut and jig saws;May perform various groundskeeper activities;May perform other skilled maintenance activities;May supervise the work of subordinates on a work project;May operate a truck or other automotive equipment;Performs a variety of related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either:Completion of a trade school program specializing in carpentry and two (2) years of experience as a certified journey-level carpenter; ORFive (5) years of experience in the field of carpentry.
