The Niskayuna Central School District has an opening and is now accepting applications for an Accounts Payable Clerk.GENERAL INFORMATION: This position involves receiving, verifying, reconciling and processing invoices and preparing checks for payment. Supervision is received from the Director of Business and Finance with leeway given for carrying out the details of the work. This position will be a competitive Schenectady County Civil Service position. Candidates must meet Civil Service requirements for appointment and be reachable on the Civil Service list when available. If list is not available, this will be a provisional appointment and the successful candidate must take the SCCSC exam and be reachable.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: • Charges expenses to accounts, analyzing invoices for discount opportunities and records these entries; • Reviews and resolves discrepancies for purchase orders, invoices and receiving reports to make payments and prepare checks on a scheduled basis; • Issues stop-payments or purchase order amendments; • Reconciles monthly vendor statements and related transactions; • Prepares checks for payroll liabilities and vendors on a weekly basis and on a monthly basis; • Sorts, indexes and files requisitions, vouchers, and other material; • Adheres to safety policy; • Performs other related duties as assigned.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial accounts and records; working knowledge of computer operations as they related to an automated accounting system; working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; working knowledge of Business Arithmetic and English; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; ability to prioritize and shift priorities as needed in order to meet deadlines; attention to detail and accuracy; ability to learn new computer programs.QUALIFICATIONS:A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate’s degree in Business Administration or a related field and two (2) years of experience in accounts payable or accounts receivable; OR B. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of experience as defined by the limits of (A) above; OR C.
