The North Salem Central School District will be canvassing the Civil Service 26-898 List, however, if you hold the title and currently sit in the position, please feel free to apply Position: Director of Facilities III Location: District Wide Start Date: Immediately Upon Board Approval Salary: $120,000-$150,000 Qualifications: Civil Service, competitive appointment - must meet Civil Service qualifications and requirements of the positionDescription:The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration of North Salem Central School District’s buildings and grounds and transportation departments. Your responsibilities will include administrative responsibilities as well as supervisory responsibilities over custodial, maintenance, employees of the transportation department as well as those responsible for building safety and security and subordinate supervisors. It is expected that you will work in collaboration with central and building administration to support the Mission of the North Salem Central School District and successfully achieve your job requirements. This position will report directly to the Superintendent of Schools. Other job duties include but are not limited to:Serving on the District Facilities, Fields and Safety CommitteesServing as the District’s Infection Control OfficerServing as the District’s Safety OfficerAssisting in the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education in the development of policies to ensure preventive maintenance program to ensure that buildings and grounds equipment are maintained in safe operating condition as well as policies relating to fleet maintenanceDirecting, assigning, training and evaluating the work of subordinate supervisors and personnelCreating and maintaining records and reports pertinent to operations and the programs supervisedCommunicating capital projects, maintenance, repair and operational needs with school administratorsCollaborating with construction managers, architects and/or engineers to develop implementing and completing capital improvement projects and other long-term plansEnsuring that preventive maintenance is performed and meeting regularly with subordinates to plan and execute repairs on equipment, including plumbing, HVAC and electrical systemsEnsuring that custodial, maintenance, transportation and security employees receive necessary in-service trainingReviewing the school district’s budget and expenditures from the prior years to assist the Superintendent with the budgetary process in order to forecast and plan for the upcoming budgetApproving purchase requests of cleaning supplies, fuel and parts for equipment and buildingsInspecting the painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other mechanical maintenance and construction work performed by private contractors, custodial or maintenance employees to ensure work is in compliance with contract specifications, as well as, applicable codes and regulationsEnsuring that inspections are performed and tests of security systems, safety lighting, fire extinguishers, fire alarm systems, doors, AED and eyewash stations are completed to ensure proper operation and compliance with applicable codes and regulationsEnsuring that inspectors and reports are completed for federal, state and local regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with codes, rules and regulationsRecommending staffing to the Director of Instruction and Human Resources as well as assuming responsibility for interviewing, evaluating and disciplining departmental personnelFollowing the contract and establishing policies and procedures regarding work schedules, vacation, personal and sick leave requests and ensures employees have adequate leave accrualsResponding to inquiries from employees, school district administrators and the public regarding school district buildings and grounds activitiesAttending School Board meetings and other committee meetings, as required, to address issues specific to the buildings and grounds department and, where applicable, the transportation department Minimal Qualifications:Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology or a related field and two years of experience in general building construction, building maintenance or repair work in one or more of the specialty trades, such as plumbing, electrical work, heating, ventilating and air conditioning installation, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.Or Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology or a related field and four years of experience as outlined in (A), one of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.Or An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license and certificates appropriate to the vehicle, equipment and/or machinery operated at time of appointment or during the course of employment consistent with the needs of the School District.In accordance with Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws 2000, and the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment based upon fingerprint and criminal history background check.
