Assistant Superintendent For Student Support ServicesCity School District of New RochelleEmbracing Diversity: Driving Success The City School District of New Rochelle seeks a gifted and transformational educator to join the cabinet of a school district on the move. This is a unique opportunity to lead a multi-disciplinary team of dedicated educators and staff to support the Whole Child. Responsibilities include providing leadership and direction for the planning, implementation, and assessment of the Student Support Services including Special Education, Counseling Services, Psychological Services, Medical Services, School Social Work and Attendance. The Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services ensures the effective operation of all Student Support Services by developing, managing, and supporting all resources essential to increasing student achievement. The Assistant Superintendent will develop and implement an aligned and coherent district framework for special education services, create a comprehensive plan to address chronic absenteeism, revise how the district approaches suspension, discipline, and school counseling supports, expand services and supports to students and families by leveraging family and community partnerships.Reports To: Superintendent of SchoolsRole: The Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools, supervises and directs the day-to-day operations of the District’s Student Support Services division. The Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services chairs and serves on District committees as directed by the Superintendent, assists in planning, development and implementation of Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.The job responsibilities of the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services include, but are not limited to:Plans, directs, and monitors the Student Support Services programs of the City School District of New Rochelle, which includes Special Education, Counseling Services, Psychological Services, Medical Services, and School Social Work Services.Assures the creation and enhancement of expanded learning opportunities, a robust network of after school and summer enrichment supports and services for students in the form of after- and summer school enrichment programs, by leveraging family and community partnerships.Develops and implements an aligned and coherent district framework for social and emotional learning and wellness for students and adults in the school community in collaboration with the Office of Curriculum and Instruction.Oversees the revision of how the district approaches suspension, discipline, and school counseling.Officiates Superintendent Student Hearings.Creates and enhances a comprehensive plan to address chronic absenteeism of our students.Oversees program implementation and provides adequate materials and equipment for all Student Support Services Programs.Assists with the implementation of strategic goals/objectives related to all Student Support Services Programs.Provides support to principals in evaluation of local programs and in planning for improvement of the program.Communicates information on services and regulations to school personnel, parents, and the Board of Education for the purpose of understanding services.Provides leadership, direction, and oversight of District alternative education initiatives and extended learning.In partnership with the Business Department and Superintendent, manages the District’s fiscal resources and many of the district’s grants, prepares budgets and directs spending.Assists in communicating to the stakeholders of The City School District of New Rochelle all relevant information about the Student Support Services Programs.Attends all Board of Education meetings and presents Student Support Services policies and procedures to the Board of Education for information or action.Responsible for representing the District in all Student Support Services matters brought before the Board of Education.Represents the District, when assigned, in social, organizational, ceremonial, political, or other functions, as needed.Chairs committees that involve student rights.Prepares responses for state and federal complaints and individual lawsuits relating to students.Provides leadership and expertise in promoting the Strategic Objectives as an integral part of the day-to-day District operations.Assists principals in the mediation and resolution of parent/student concerns and complaints within established guidelines and policy.In partnership with school administrators and the Department of Human Resources, assists in the recruiting, hiring, supervising, and evaluating District special education and clinical staff.Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students and staff for the purpose of offering appropriate services.Works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction/Chief Academic Officer on all learning initiatives.Oversees and directs the allocation of special education staff to schools in accordance with state and local standards and student needs.Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students and staff for the purpose of offering appropriate services.Monitors student needs for assistive technology required for access to the general curriculum.Provides required assistive technology and training for staff and students.Performs other related duties as assigned. Candidates must possess:A minimum of a Master’s degree in Education or a closely related field at the time of applicationNew York State School District Administrator (SDA) or New York State School District Leader (SDL) certificate at the time of application.A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in a public school setting.
