Social Studies Teacher - Neil Hellman School Albany$2,500 sign on bonus - half paid at 1 month month of employment and half paid at 1 year of employmentPOSITION SUMMARYThis position is responsible for development and implementation of Social Studies classroom instructional plans for students in Neil Hellman School and the School at Northeast.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvide subject area instruction (Social Studies) that follow the NYS K-12 Social Studies Curricula and prepares students for exit examinations and statewide assessments.Develop and implement Social Studies instructional materials to provide individual and small group instruction to students of various ability levels. At the high school level develop lessons, teach, and prepare students for examinations in U.S. History, Global History, and Government.Develop and implement a classroom instructional plan with the Special Education Teacher (SET) that integrates the students IEP goals and objectives, learning style, as well as accommodations and modifications that are needed.Develop and implement with the Special Education Teacher (SET) individual and classroom behavior plans for managing student behavior to maintain discipline in the classroom; assist classroom staff with crisis prevention and intervention techniques; assist classroom staff with de-escalation techniques with appropriate; teach students appropriate behavior strategiesUtilize the classroom PBIS universal plan as well as Tier 2 and 3 strategies for selected students as needed.Manage and coordinate the safety and well-being of students through the use of established classroom and schoolwide processes and procedures; supervise classroom staff in implementing these with their work with students throughout the building.Follow school and agency procedures and policies for reporting incidents. This includes behavior incident reports (IR) as well as incidents such as child/sexual abuse, substance abuse, harassment, bullying, and violence.Establish positive relationships with parents and family members to create a partnership around student treatment, student behavior, and academic progress.Participate in classroom grade level, and behavior/treatment meetings as well as professional training and development sessions as required or needed (e.g. TCI, CPR, emergency procedures and other agency requirements.Follow all Agency policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to our school and students.Provide leadership to assigned teacher assistants in the various clerical and non-instructional duties as required or needed for your classroom.Work collaboratively with other teachers, clinicians, administrators, medical staff and other school staff to provide integrated support, assistance, and treatment to students.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEMasters degree Special Education or subject areaEnrollment in a program that leads to a Masters degree will be required within five (5) yearsPrefer experience and ability to work with students who demonstrate serious emotional and behavioral challenges, ages 6-21CERTIFICATION / LICENSURERequires NYS certification in Special Education or appropriate subject area, or enrollment in a program that leads to NYS teacher certification
