The North Shore School District seeks a dynamic, student-centered Theater Teacher to lead and grow a comprehensive 6–12 theater program. This position includes both curricular instruction and leadership of a vibrant extracurricular theater program. At North Shore, the arts are an essential part of the student experience. We are seeking an educator who is passionate about fostering creativity, collaboration, and artistic voice, and who is excited to build a program that supports students at all levels—from exploratory experiences to advanced performance. Required / Preferred Qualifications New York State certification in Theater Additional certification in English or Visual Arts, or willingness to pursue certification Demonstrated experience teaching theater at the middle and/or high school level Experience teaching and designing improvisation-based instruction Key Responsibilities Instruction (Grades 6–12): Teach middle school theater cycle classes (Grades 6–7) with a focus on improvisation, ensemble-building, and creative exploration Teach Grade 8 Studio in Theater, a full-year course focused on performance, creative development, and foundational theater skills Teach a sequence of high school theater courses, including introductory and advanced acting (e.g., Acting I, II, III) Design engaging, student-centered lessons that support performance, improvisation, and creative expression Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners Foster an inclusive classroom environment and culture of community that cultivates creative risk-taking, collaboration, and reflective practice among all learners Theater Program Leadership: Direct school productions (plays and musicals) Provide artistic vision and leadership for productions Collaborate with staff, students, and community members to support all aspects of production (lighting, sound, set design, and costuming), with shared responsibilities across the production team Collaboration & Program Development: Work collaboratively with Fine & Performing Arts staff, administrators, and the school community Contribute to the continued development and alignment of the 6–12 theater curriculum Support program growth by fostering student engagement and participation Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
