Assistant Principal duties. Athletic Director duties. General Function: To oversee and coordinate the interscholastic athletic programs at New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School, combined with Responsibilities: Scheduling Schedule athletic schedules in all interscholastic sports. Coordinate practice and facility use schedules at high school and elementary facilities. Provide transportation department with “away” schedule. Provide custodians at high school and elementary school with “home” and practice schedules to assure readiness of fields/gyms. Reschedule contests cancelled because of weather or other circumstance. Officials Supply officials’ assignors with complete schedules for all interscholastic athletic teams. Confirm contests with individual officials assigned. Notify officials in case of cancellations. Check officials’ claim vouchers for accuracy, initial, and turn in to district office Coaches Screen coaching candidates with high school principal and submit nominees to superintendent for board recommendation. Maintain and update files on current coaches. Develop, update and distribute coaches’ handbook. Conduct pre-season coaches meeting. Evaluate coaches. Conduct exit meeting which includes collecting: uniforms, equipment inventory, keys, fobs, first aid kit, final roster, season summary, signed certificates, requisitions, captain names, senior athlete nominees, All-Star information, nominee, 3 award winners for end of year ceremony, coach’s comments and singed pay voucher. Review evaluation. Section II 1. Review any disqualification reports and forward them to league president and Section II. 2. Oversee and coordinate mergers with other schools for specific sports. 3. Fill out and submit transfer student forms. 4. Fill out, obtain appropriate signatures, and submit letters of intent for sectional competition. 5. Assume the duties of Site Chairman for any sectional contests held at New Lebanon facilities. 6. Follow the proper procedure in selection classification. PROCEDURE: A coach recommends (to the athletic director) a 7 th or 8 th grade student for participation on a junior varsity or varsity team. If the student meets the NYSPHSAA and Section II guidelines for selection classification, the parents are informed of the coach’s request. If the parents wish their child play up, they complete and return the proper permission form for testing. The test is scheduled and administered by the athletic director to assess the student’s physical ability to participate at a higher level. The athletic director will forward all necessary data to the Section II chairperson and maintain all required records. 7. Uphold rules and regulations of Section II (league constitution and NYSPHSAA handbook) Sports Sign Ups Post sign up lists for each sport season. Coordinate with school nurse for physical. Academic Eligibility Monitor all athlete’s academic eligibility Notify coaches, teachers, office and guidance of ineligible student athletes. Athletic Awards Plan and coordinate end of season awards banquet. Notify all coaches and athletes in writing of awards program. Maintain file on current athletes for varsity letter awards. Determine CHVL Outstanding Senior Athletes. Order and pick up trophies and plaques. Provide office staff with current team lists for award certificates. Compile Scholar/Athlete teams and submit to NYSPHSAA for recognition. Budget – Requisitions Collect requisitions from all coaches and form budget requests. Estimate referee fees, mileage, coaches salaries for budget. Miscellaneous Plan and coordinate the New Lebanon Soccer tournament at New Lebanon High School in September. Attend various athletic contests and events throughout the year. Work in conjunction with the building principal and pool operator in developing and updating Safety Plan Guidelines for the operation of Shatford Pool. Plan and conduct “Code Night” or otherwise devise a method to ensure that each athlete and parents understand the Athletic Code of Conduct. Accountability The director of athletics will meet periodically with both the superintendent and high school principal. An annual evaluation will be followed by a conference with the principal. A seasonal summary will be provided to the superintendent, principal and BOE of the summary of each sports season for each team, outstanding achievements (team or individual), and recommendations for facility or program improvements. Authority To direct the interscholastic athletics program according to the standards of the student handbook, the Athletic Code of Conduct, the coaches handbook, the appropriate league, Section II, and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
