The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction shall serve under the direct supervision of the Superintendent (assuming the responsibility of the Superintendent in his/her absence) and shall have the following responsibilities: 1. Primary responsibility for the development, organization and coordination of the K-12 instructional program. 2. Assist the Superintendent in interpreting the work of the District to community residents and agencies including the preparation of school and community newsletters. 3. Leadership in the preparation of curriculum guides and courses of study and in the selection of instructional materials. 4. Assisting in the orientation, supervision and evaluation of all certified teachers and administrators. 5. The preparation (with other staff members), for the administration and evaluation of all State and Federal education programs. 6. Encourage experimentation with, and general supervision of, new programs and practices, and evaluation of their effectiveness. 7. Provide general coordination of the operation of the school libraries and other curriculum areas. 8. Assist in the initiation, planning, direction, supervision and evaluation of programs of inservice education. 9. Assist in the recruitment, selection and assignment of staff (including student teaching). 10. Supervise all system-wide research and the optimum dissemination of the results of these studies. 11. Serve as administrative representative on the Curriculum Committees. 12. Serve as Non-discrimination Title IX Coordinator. 13. Implement and generally supervise all summer school programs. 14. Cooperate with other school district, legislative groups, professional organizations and officials in working for legislation and programs beneficial to education in general and the District in particular. 15. Perform any other duties assigned by the Superintendent that will assist him/her in providing administrative services to the District.
