Coordinator of Elementary Literacy (PK-6) The Coordinator of PK-6 Literacy oversees and provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of the district's early literacy program, initiatives, and curricula and coordinates literacy-related professional learning. This administrator works closely with teachers, instructional leaders, and administrators to evaluate programs and instructional practices, fostering a coherent system of literacy instruction grounded in evidence-based practices and the Science of Reading. By identifying and implementing opportunities to strengthen the quality and coherence of the district's literacy programs, this individual maintains high standards and demonstrates strong instructional leadership through strategic planning, collaboration and continuous improvement. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: leads the design, implementation, alignment, and evaluation of a comprehensive PK-6 literacy program and curricula, ensuring coherence across grade levels and alignment with the Next Generation English Language Arts Standards and the Science of Reading provides leadership and vision for district-wide literacy initiatives, ensuring the effective implementation of evidence-based instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. oversees and supports and implementation of the district's core literacy programming based on The Science of Reading, ensuring consistent instructional practices and fidelity across elementary schools. aligns Pre-K emergent literacy experiences with K-6 expectations to ensure a seamless transition into formal reading and writing instruction creates systems for the analysis of literacy data, including universal screeners, benchmark assessments, and the New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts Assessment and collaborates with teachers and administrators to strengthen instruction and student outcomes coordinates and refines the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to ensure that Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading interventions effectively supplement core classroom instruction coordinates and optimizes efforts to meet students’ reading needs through the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including supporting specially designed reading programs recommended in IEPs. ensures programmatic alignment across general education, special education, ENL, and AIS services to support the needs of diverse learners evaluates and recommends literacy instructional materials, programs, and interventions, ensuring alignment with district priorities and state guidance develops tools and systems to monitor program implementation and effectiveness, including classroom observations, instructional walkthroughs, and collaboration with administrators to support school improvement efforts. provides professional learning and instructional coaching for teachers, reading specialists, and administrators to strengthen literacy instruction and improve student outcomes coordinates opportunities for vertical and horizontal articulation among teachers and instructional leaders to ensure coherence in literacy instruction across grade levels promotes the integration of background knowledge and vocabulary development as essential drivers of reading comprehension collaborates with instructional coordinators and district leaders to support teachers and strengthen literacy instruction districtwide manages district literacy initiatives, grants, and reporting requirements, ensuring alignment with state priorities and district goals fosters communication and engagement with families and the community, supporting reading development and explaining district literacy initiatives serves as a key district leader in literacy, providing guidance and recommendations to administrators and contributing to district instructional planning and decision-making Additional Roles and Responsibilities: oversees the district’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program, ensuring alignment between early childhood literacy experiences and elementary instructional expectations coordinates kindergarten screening and early literacy assessments, supporting a smooth transition into formal reading instruction develops and maintains partnerships with regional literacy organizations, higher education institutions, and professional networks to enhance literacy initiatives and access to resources supports district initiatives related to early literacy, family engagement, and reading development, including workshops, outreach events, and community partnerships facilitates district literacy committees and working groups to support program review, instructional coherence, and continuous improvement collaborates with district and building administrators on staffing projections, program planning, and resource allocation to ensure educationally sound and fiscally responsible literacy programming prepares reports, presentations, and updates for district leadership and the Board of Education regarding literacy programs, initiatives and student outcomes supports district strategic planning and school improvement initiatives related to literacy instruction and student achievement. Minimum Training and Experience: knowledge of national and New York State standards, specifically, but not limited to the Next Generation Standards in English Language Arts and the Science of Reading and best instructional practices for implementation and instruction related to said standards and approaches for reading support and interventions evidence of educational leadership, including leading teams, initiatives or programs with proven effectiveness evidence of successful classroom teaching experience at the elementary level commitment to providing equitable educational opportunities and outcomes for all students experience analyzing academic and behavioral data to inform decision-making knowledge of and experience supporting Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners Qualifications and Requirements: valid New York State School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) certification master’s degree required; doctorate preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills embraces innovation ability to work effectively as the member of a team ability to build and sustain productive relationships across varied roles and constituencies experience supervising and evaluating staff effectively proficiency with instructional technology and data systems ability to develop, implement, and monitor strategic plans experience leading instructional initiatives and supporting high-quality teaching practices strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills Reports to: Director of Humanities and the Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Teaching Supervises: Pre K-6 Instruction and Staff in Related Areas Length of Year: Full-time (11 months) Salary: Commensurate with the Northport Association of School Administrators (NASA) contract Application Procedure: Address all letters of interest and resumes to the attention of Anthony J.
