240709-01Freshman Seminar Teacher/SHSNYS Counseling Certification preferred, or a NYS Teaching CertificationShaker High is introducing a new program to support our incoming Freshmen as they transition to high school. A successful candidate will help students navigate their first year at the high school and inspire them to find their individual trajectories. Freshman Seminar hopes to increase a sense of connection and support which should lead to a feeling of belonging, improved behaviors, and decreased absenteeism. Teacher will facilitate sessions on wide-ranging topics including: Social-Emotional Literacy: self-awareness, self regulation, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, social awareness, and community circles & restorative practices. Executive Management: long and short term planning; goal setting; organizing physical and digital learning spaces; time management; and study and test-taking strategies. Disciplinary Preparation: career pathways & micro certifications; individualized trajectories for success (planning with purpose - see Job Hunting); anticipating future needs in growing industries (and obtaining requisite skills); media, science, history, ELA and math literacy.
