Title: School Social Worker- Elementary Pay Scale: As per the NBTA Contract Start Date: 8/28/24 Description: Provide school social work services to students who are at-risk for school failure and/or are demonstrating social/emotional/behavioral problems within the school setting; provide regularly scheduled IEP and AIS counseling services for students; provide comprehensive school social work services to parents, students and school staff; work with teachers, therapists and other staff to provide ongoing guidance regarding interrelationship of child's home and community environment with the school setting; work collaborative with the team to provide the appropriate services the child, family and staff needs; respond to referrals from school administration, parents, teachers, the Early Intervention Team, the Special Education Committee and others; assist families in accessing appropriate community resources Expectations: Provide IEP and AIS counseling services to the students individually and/or in groups; provide tele therapy counselling sessions for students when needed Provide social skills, anger management, stress reduction or other similar instruction to students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioral problems that interfere with their learning or the ability of others to learn Serve as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team in all buildings; provide social, emotional and behavior support for students in crisis Collaborate with teachers, behaviorists, administrators, parents/guardians, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students Participate in Early Intervention Team, CSE and/or 504 meetings Perform various social work intakes for interviewing, completing appropriate social history and intake forms and assessing other aspects of the students’ circumstances and background. Assist students to improve their social, emotional, academic, personal and social functioning Provide social skills, anger management, stress reduction or other similar instruction to students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioral problems that interfere with their learning or the ability of others to learn Participate in appropriate department, faculty and school-based meetings Determine the specific path of therapy-based counseling and teaching to support students and families Analyze FBAs and support the implementation of BIPs and determine their effectiveness Review student records to identify previous barriers and/or interventions; evaluate student's performance and other information pertinent to the student's program/IEP services Assist school staff in developing and implementing interventions to allow students with disabilities to be successful when mainstreaming Work with Teacher Aides (Paraprofessionals) on how to best support students Support teachers and support teams in preparation for CPSE and CSE Lead parent training sessions to support the home-school connection Prepare and maintain a broad variety of documentation and records, including writing case reports, and all related details or recommendations, therapy provided, etc. Have a working understanding of the school social work profession including associated laws (IDEA, ADA, compulsory attendance, etc.) Serve on building and district level committees for special education, Health and Wellness, etc. Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents, as requested Participate in professional development activities aimed at current trends and best practices for the provision of comprehensive school social work services Provide information to families and assist them in accessing long-term or intensive counseling services, as needed Serve as a liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet student needs; refer parents and students to agencies when appropriate Stay current and relevant with changing developments, trends, instructional and educational technologies, and programs, etc. as is relates to the role of School Social Worker Other assigned duties/responsibilities at the building and district levels ? Requirements: Master’s degree in Social Work Valid and current NYS License Clinic Social Worker Knowledge of school counseling practices A minimum of three years’ experience working with families and/or children, preferred but not required CPI Training, preferred but not required Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and data entry systems Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members Employment Term: This is a probationary position.
