Title: Elementary ALPHA (Gifted and Talented) Teacher Start Date: August 28, 2024 Pay Scale: As per the NBTA Contract Description: North Bellmore is seeking a probationary K-6 teacher to work with students, district-wide, in grades 3-6 who are part of the ALPHA (gifted and talented) Program. The candidate is expected to speak, act and instruct students in a manner that is consistent with the District’s Core Values, Mission and Curricula areas. The candidate will be expected to provide identified gifted and talented students with appropriate learning experiences that develop potential and lead to advanced academic achievement. The ALPHA teacher reports directly to the Director of Educational Programs and Staff Development, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Building Principal and/or designated Central Administrators Expectations: Implements curricula and activities to meet our high academic standards Develops and monitors differentiated educational plans for studentsDesigns lessons to promote student learning and critical thinkingCreates programs/units of study that promote acceleration, complexity, depth, challenge and creativity in content, process and/or productProvides instruction which enhances problem solving skills, divergent thinking skills, research skills, self-direction, self-esteem, and social responsibilityAssists in designing and implementing programs to discover and nurture academic potential in the studentsProvides materials and information to help create an environment that provides options for the exceptional needs of gifted studentsSupports individual students in selecting appropriate topics for independent investigation and monitors their progressConducts individual or small group conferences with students as neededMakes students aware of opportunities outside of the regular curriculumPrepares students for end of year evening culminating events/performances Creates a positive, structured learning environment to ensure that students observe the school’s core values, high expectations, and code of conduct Assists classroom teachers in differentiating curriculumCreates and maintain an engaging and organized physical classroom environment, making learning accessible to all students Establishes and maintain positive relationships and constructive interactions with students, families, colleagues and administration Upholds all school policies within the classroom Communicates effectively with students, families, and colleagues Complies with and execute all safety and security protocols/procedures for the building and district Commits to continual professional growth Attends all required meetings and Professional Development Actively engages with the North Bellmore community in fulfilling its mission Requirements: NYS Certificate in General Education Grades K – 6, or N-6, or B-2 AND1-6Extension for Gifted Education, preferred not requiredMinimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching, preferred not requiredExcellent organizational, oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members??
