Common Core Competencies:Capable of interpreting the artistic needs of students and leading the charge to translate them into creative educational solutions that support the Arts and Common CoreCapable of focusing on the needs of digital learners.Capable of collaborating with a team of creative instructional specialists in various subject areas – music, dance, theater, technical theater, visual art, textile art, and media art, etc.Ensure that the creative output of the instructional team is consistent with the district’s mission and vision.Able to articulate a commitment to support Arts programs that set rigorous, high expectations for all children.Knowledgeable in curriculum implementation for ENL, ESL, ELL, and students with disabilitiesCapable of facilitating the district’s infusion of instructional shifts into the Arts programs.Knowledgeable about state statutes and regulations related to all artistic disciplines.Capable of leading initiatives through the promotion of culturally diverse experiences and perspectives and ensuring that learningCapable of effective communication.Qualifications:SDL/SDA New York State Administrator CertificationMinimum five years of teaching and/or administrative experienceExperience organizing student performance productions.Demonstrated expertise in the Arts, as well as core instructional disciplines.Responsibilities:Works collaboratively to plan, direct, manage, evaluate, and oversee all aspects of the K- 12 Arts Curricula.Heads a curriculum articulation committee of art, theater, dance, and music teachers in shaping and restructuring the Arts curriculum guides, maps and scope, and sequence.Collaborates with building administrators in the evaluation, mentorship, supervision, and evaluation of the Arts teachers.Cooperates and collaborates with other content administrators in regular meetings of the Administrative Standards Team to integrate the Arts into their curriculum.Conducts a grade-by-grade Arts curriculum audit with teachers and assesses classroom content-specific needs of Arts students.Designs, plans, coordinates, and takes responsibility for all aspects of Arts curriculum writing, and professional development.Collaborates in the development and implementation of the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR)K-5 talent recruitment.K-8 districtwide productions.Develop and implement student media initiative(s) not limited to TV, broadcasting, and/or journalism.Implements programs centered around filming, script writing, set designs, photography, communications (television production and radio broadcasting), and cinematography in the schools through collaboration with various partners.Establish after-school, Saturday, and Summer cultural arts programs (band, orchestra, drum & bugle chorus, poetry, dance, acting, step dance, choir directing)Cooperates with principals in recruiting, training, and assigning the Arts staff.Assists with monitoring the Arts budgets.Works closely with the Business Office and Building & Grounds on procedures for musical instrument inventories, repairs, distribution of materials for musicals and concerts, and organizing and facilitating performances.Supports teachers in sending students to NYSSMA, WCSMA, and other competitive programs.Performs such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.REPORTS TO: The Superintendent or designee Revised 7/24/2023 kvsThank you for showing interest in the Mount Vernon City School District.
