The district is seeking interested applicants to fill a vacancy for School Security Monitor at Pennington School.SCHOOL SECURITYDISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:Work is performed in accordance with the regulations set by the principal of the school. Under the direct supervision of the principal, performs various duties related to the safety, health and welfare of the students and the security of the school building. This is responsible work calling for the exercise of good judgment and exceptional ability to relate well with youngsters. A security officer may be assigned supervisory responsibilities over school monitors assigned in a similar capacity. Does related work as required. EXAMPLES OF WORK: (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)Enforces school regulations relating to student behavior as established by the school principal;Checks school building before students report to school and at the end of the day to ensure that no unauthorized individual is on the premises;Patrols all parts of the school building including lavatories, also school grounds and parking areas to prevent trespassers and loiterers and misuse of school property by students;Assists in supervision of cafeterias and corridors,Participates in conferences with parents when necessary;Participates in meetings with law enforcement agents and represents school district when required at hearings;Provides security at sporting events and other extracurricular events; Assists school staff in all matters related to discipline.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Good general intelligence; ability to be firm yet courteous with children; ability to relate well with children; reasonable command of the English language; alertness, tact, good judgment, honesty and integrity, sense of responsibility, dependable, congenial in exercising his/her influence on students, neatness of appearance and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma issued by the State Education Department of New York; AND Two years of full-time paid experience working with children in a public or private facility; OR Two years of full time paid experience as a Security Guard.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a NYS Security Guard License prior to appointment.CSCADOPTED 9/19/11The Mount Vernon City School District is an equal opportunity employer, committed to providing a work environment which is free from discrimination.
