The Mount Vernon City School District is seeking interested applicants to fill a vacancy for the position of Supervisor of Special Education for the 2022-23 school year. The successful applicant MUST have an appropriate NYS SDA, or SDL JOB DESCRIPTIONSUPERVISOR -SPECIAL EDUCATIONrevised March 25, 2022 Qualifications:• Appropriate NYS SDA, or SOL Administrative certification• Appropriate NYS Teacher certification in Special Education,• SWD 1-6, or• SWD 7-12/Content Area 7-12, or• School Psychologist, Speech Pathologist, or other related service certification• Minimum of five years teaching in special and/or as a related service provider education and administrative experience in special education General Performance ResponsibilitiesOrganization and supervision of programs for Students with Disabilities, instructional support and the supervision of Special education staff and service providersMajor Responsibilities• Chairs or participates in special education meetings: Initial Eligibility, Program Review, Annual Review, Reevaluation Review, Behavior Intervention Plan meetings as required and Manifestation Determination Reviews as may be required; implement information on IEPs, coordinate and monitor the implementation of information on IEPs from other staff and finalize IEPs upon completion.• Assists in the development, monitoring, and updating of IEPs• Supervises the implementation of IEPs and ensures compliance and the provision of services• Collaborates with building and district administration to design and implement programs for special education teachers and students• Continually reviews data in order to support good instructional practices in all special education classrooms and support services• Supports all general education teachers in ensuring that there is good core instruction and supports in order to ensure referrals to CSE are appropriate• Models evidenced based instructional strategies and practices• Models, ensures and supports the delivery of specially designed instruction (SDI)• Assist administrators in scheduling special education classes• Assist administrators in supporting instruction and behavioral support in special education classrooms• Supervises Special Education staff• Consults with administrators and teachers of students with disabilities, provides support in the implementation of Specially Designed Instruction curriculum and classroom modifications • Support special education staff in the development and enhancement of skills needed to be effective teachers• Organize and/or facilitate Parent Counseling & Training• In coordination with general education, organize and facilitate professional development/training related to teaching, learning, and curriculum• Models and ensures that active student engagement strategies are utilized during classroom instruction.• In cooperation with other Student Services staff members, assists in the placement of pupils in special classes• Recommends purchase of special education materials and equipment and assists t teacher s with proper utilization• Acts as liaison between home and school• Assists with providing pertinent information, such as special education programming, to school building administrators to assist with placing students in appropriate classes based on IEP mandates• Works with school counselors to provide supports to students with disabilities to engage in graduation activities• Provides counselors with testing accommodations information necessary for students with disabilities to complete the applications for the SAT, PSAT examinations and NYS assessments• Works on special assignments i.e., Special Education Advisory• Coordinates transportation for special education students• Works with the business department regarding, billing, LREs, STACs, Medicaid• Problem solves issues pertaining to students in conjunction with parents, administrators, teaching assistants, and staff• As needed, conducts investigations and provides written report of findings• As appropriate, works with district attorneys and student advocates to meet the needs of students, including participating in impartial hearings, investigations and CSEs.• Assists with addressing compliance issues from the State and assigning staff to log-in ID and passwords for IEP Direct System.• Maintains compliance with federal and state special education regulation • Assist special education staff in the implementation of IEPs for students• Assist and/or evaluates the performance of special education teachers, related service providers and teacher assistants in conjunction with Principals and other immediate Supervisors• Work collaboratively with building administrators, Supervisors, special education teachers, clinicians, parents, etc. to assure appropriate services for students with disabilities;• Assess/Monitor special education and related services provided for students through monitoring progress of students' IEP goals and Student Learning Objectives;• Work with others to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date;• Assign students to Case Managers at the secondary level.• Compile and maintain data on Special Education students• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel Services, Cabinet Level Administrator or the Superintendent of Schools Reports to the Director of Special EducationPlease forward a letter of interest, copy of certification(s) and resume to www.olasjobs.org.
