The Mount Vernon City School District is seeking an interested candidate to fill a vacancy for Parent Liaison with the Office of School Improvement. Interested candidates MUST be a resident of Mount Vernon, New York, must have a high school diploma or possession of an equivalency diploma issued by the New York State Department of Education and must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License. The Parent Liaison works under direct supervision of a school principal and works with the parents of students, promoting their involvement and providing information and/or direction. Assists parents in setting goals and educational development for their children. This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Develops and refines program materials. The engagement of parents/guardians will be the primary focus of the Parent Liaison. Meets with principles or his/her designee(s) to develop and review work plans and assess the impact of the liaison’s work on student outcomes. The following are the required knowledge, skills and abilities: Excellent ability to multi-task; ability to compile, analyze data and present in table or graphic format; good communication skills with persons with varied cultural and educational backgrounds; ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships; ability to maintain confidential information; good ability to schedule activities and/or meetings; good problem solving skills; proficiency in operating standard office equipment; basic arithmetic skills; good communication skills in both oral and written directions; good knowledge of the English language; ability to lead and coordinate the work of others; integrity; honesty; resourcefulness; aptitude; tact and courtesy; alertness; neatness of appearance and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
