PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Current NYS School District Leadership Certification or equivalent.3 years of experience in school administration. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Candidate Must demonstrate process, management and administrative ability.Excellent verbal and written communication skillsCandidate must be flexible, and highly energized DESCRIPTIONThe successful candidate for this position is an effective communicator with a proven record of developing positiverelationships among students, families, and school staff. The candidate will be able to demonstrate:Experience in providing instructional leadership at the district level in order to develop, implement, and supervise high quality systems & structures for Special Education Services.Comprehensive knowledge of Federal IDEA & Section 504, and NYS Part 200 Regulations.Knowledge of research-based practice for instructional design, delivery, and assessment to support students with disabilities and those students at risk; RESPONSIBIITIESCPSE/CSE Chairperson for Pre-K through Grade 12. Chairs Committee on Special Education meetings and provides notification of its recommendations to Board of Education, central office administrators, building principals, special education staff and parents/ guardians.Directing and monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEP)Coordinating compliance with all Federal, State and local laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities.Assists in preparing all official reports relating to special education as required by the state and federal governments.Assist in monitoring of out-of-district placements and related services.Supervising departmental Special Education staff.Conducting performance observations of department personnel.Works with staff in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating new programs and practices in special education. Assesses and recommends staff development needs.Communication and collaborating with Principals and other administrators regarding assignments for department personnel and programs for students;Assist in the screening and interviewing of applicants for special education position vacancies and makes recommendations for hiring. Reviews results of program instruction including test data with staff to identify student needs. Assist in the scheduling of students. Assist with preparing and monitoring the annual budget for the special education department.Assist with coordinating and developing District policies, regulations and procedures as they relate to special education services.Performs such additional duties as may be delegated by the immediate supervisor or the Superintendent of Schools.
