DESCRIPTIONThe Monticello Central School District is seeking a full-time high school science teacher for the new alternative high school program. As a teacher in a new program, the applicant will take an active role in collaboratively designing curriculum, goals, and expectations of the school. The goal of this program is to provide students with project-based learning and inquiry-based opportunities in small class sizes that re-engage students with school. Interested educators that enjoy working with a diverse group of students and are flexible and willing to try new strategies to meet a particular student’s need or preference are encouraged to apply. This position will require collaboration with the other teachers when designing curriculum, program needs, and analyzing student data. Teachers in this program are supported by a mentor, an outside consultant and numerous professional development workshops and opportunities to enhance their pedagogical and curricular practices.This is a grant funded position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:1.) Current New York State Biology Certificate 7-12orCurrent New York State Earth Science Certificate 7-12PREFERRED EXPERIENCE· Working with students from diverse backgrounds· Designing and implementing project-based learning· Incorporating authentic assessments into the curriculum· Designing lessons that challenge and support all students· Using strong classroom management skills that respond to a student’s individualexperience, background, and needs· Flexibility in strategies to improve student attendance
