22-23(95)Description: Responsible for the ongoing internal commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for students. The grant-funded director of student equity (DSE) will lead the district in fostering an inclusive community and eliminating school-related causes of disparities in student outcomes. The DSE will actively work with district leadership, building administration, and teaching faculty and staff to actively remove barriers that hinder student success and well-being. The director assesses current practices and supports change related to school climate, social-emotional learning (SEL), professional development, family and community engagement, recruitment and retention of staff, curriculum review, and analysis of school district data. This position will design and oversee a coordinated internal training program for teachers and staff and work with members of the MCSD administrative leadership to set goals and benchmarks for advancing our equity, anti-racist and anti-oppression programs. The director of student equity will also provide support for parents, students, the larger community, and NYSED's "call to Action" program. The ideal candidate is an exceptional collaborator who is well organized and able to work across departments and with staff at all levels within the district. The DSE will facilitate periodic parent and community sessions on equity. The position will require regular after school and evening hours. Minimum Qualifications: New York State school district leader administrative certification and experience in working years working in equity initiatives. Community outreach experience is preferred but not required. Position Requirements: 1. Practice in work towards diversity, equity, and inclusion 2. Candidate must be flexible, creative, and highly energized Position Duties/Responsibilities: Governance: Ensure that district policies and practices are aligned with our goals and best practices for student equity. 1. The DSE will chair the district’s equity task force representative of all stakeholders, including students. 2. The DSE will identify funding opportunities and other resources and prepares proposals to meet district student equity goals. 3. The DSE will chair the district's Code of Conduct Committee. 4. The DSE will sit on MCSD’s policy committee, working to ensure that all MCSD policies reflect our commitment to student equity. Teaching and Learning: Address the need for inclusive and culturally responsive teaching and learning, including but not limited to: curricula in all content areas; books and instructional materials; pedagogical practices and professional development; classroom grouping policies and practices; student support systems for all developmental pathways; full and equitable opportunities to learn for all students; and multiple assessment measures. 1. The DSE will develop and provide training related to student equity to faculty, staff, and administrators. 2. The DSE will work with the executive director of special, afterschool and summer programs and the curriculum directors to ensure a focus on student equity in all student programming in the district. 3. As an administrator, the DSE will evaluate instructional staff, when necessary. Family and community engagement: Ensure family and community engagement practices are based on mutual trust, confidence, and respect. 1. The DSE will serve as a general resource to the community for matters of diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally-responsive practices. 2. The DSE will works with community leaders to serve our diverse communities through collaboration, innovation, and partnerships while increasing our network of resources to improve and support life-long learning opportunities for our students and all community members. 3. The DSE will work with district and building administration to expand the involvement of parents from underrepresented groups.Student supports, discipline, and wellness: 1. Ensure that all programs and practices enhance all students’ self-identity, self-confidence, and self-esteem. 2. Explore and advise on non-discriminatory discipline policies and practices. 3. Focus on the well-being of the “whole child” by always considering and addressing the full range of student developmental pathways. 4. Serve as a resource to the administration, faculty, and staff regarding cross-cultural issues that may emerge in their practices 5. Measure, track and analyze the effectiveness of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives to establish benchmarks, report on progress, and identify gaps and opportunities for future areas of focus.
