MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1.) Current New York State Social Studies Certificate 7-12 DESCRIPTION The Monticello Central School District is seeking one full-time high school social studies teacher for the new alternative high school program. As a teacher in a new program, the applicant will take an active role in collaboratively designing curriculum, goals, and expectations of the school. This alternative high school provides students with a flexible and supportive educational experience where they develop real life skills through project-based learning that will help them with their future endeavors. Interested educators that enjoy working with a diverse group of students and are flexible and willing to try new strategies to meet a particular student’s need or preference are encouraged to apply. This position will require collaboration with the other teachers when designing curriculum, program needs, and analyzing student data. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Preparing students for the U.S. and/or Global Regents ExamsWorking with students from diverse backgroundsCurriculum planning using project-based learningIncorporating authentic assessments into one’s teachingDesigning lessons that challenge and support all studentsUsing strong classroom management skills that respond to a student’s individualexperience, background, and needsFlexibility in strategies to improve student attendance The Monticello Central School District is in Sullivan County, NY, and is centrally located between New York City, Albany, and the Pocono Mountain region. This provides a rare combination to live in a rural setting and still be close to major metropolitan areas for recreation and work. Monticello is the largest of the eight county school districts with multicultural enrollment of approximately 2,700 students.
