QUALIFICATIONS:NYS Certification in Special Education and/or related service areasNYS Certification in SDA or SDL/SBLMinimum of 5 Years Successful Teaching Experience in a Special Education SettingExperience chairing CSE meetings preferredExceptional communication and problem-solving skillsKnowledge and experience with autism and ABA methodologies preferredDemonstrated record of working collaboratively with administrators, staff, parents and communityPRIMARY PURPOSES:Supervising and supporting of all special education (including psychology, social work and speech) programs and staff in multiple schoolsServing as the CSE chairperson for a significant caseload of studentsSPECIFIC SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of modern theories, principles, and practices in general and special educationPersonnel administration at the department levelAbility to acquire familiarity with the laws, policies, practices, and functions of the building and district Extensive knowledge of CSE process and procedureDevelop and monitor the implementation of all Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)Ability to plan and supervise the work of others; work in a collaborative, collegial manner; tact; courtesy; good judgment; ability to present written and oral reports and recommendations clearly and conciselyAbility to gain rapport and confidence of all segments of the school community.Assist in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of instructional staff.Provide training on all aspects of special education services to general and special education teachers.Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents and community members.Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or the Assistant Superintendent for PPS
