The Director of Physical Education, Health, Wellness and Interscholastic Athletics is responsible for the administration of the district physical education program, the health education program, the interscholastic sports program, and oversees the district’s community fitness center.DUTIESAdministrationPlans, directs and coordinates health and physical education programs for district students.Plans, directs and coordinates all aspects of the interscholastic sports program.Plans, directs and coordinates health services for specified staff and students.Develops interscholastic game and practice schedule.Arranges for all services associated with interscholastic sports programs.Responsible for site supervision for all home athletic events as necessary.Maintains and submits appropriate official records and reports to the superintendent of schools, the board of education, the State Education Department and other agencies as required.Makes recommendations concerning athletics, health services and health and physical education programs.Functions as a member of the administrative team in planning, implementing and evaluating overall school policies and practices.Oversees the district’s fitness center.Performs such additional duties as may be delegated by the Superintendent.ProgramExercises leadership in curriculum and instructional improvement and provides continuing supervision of curriculum implementation for health and physical education.Makes recommendations for local curriculum and textbook adoptions to the superintendent of schools.Exercises leadership in monitoring and evaluating the interscholastic sports program.PersonnelMakes recommendations to the superintendent of schools on personnel matters such as recruitment and hiring as they relate to interscholastic sports and health services.Supervises and evaluates all athletic staff.Along with the building principal, supervises, schedules and evaluates physical and health education staff.Develops and implements in-service training programs for staff.Maintains athletics handbooks for coaches, athletes and parents.Maintains the athletics pages of the District website.Administers all employee contracts as they relate to interscholastic sports.StudentsPromotes high standards of student conduct.Arranges physical examinations of all athletes and specified students as required by law.Documents academic eligibility for all interscholastic sports participants.Supervises compliance with health and safety regulations for physical education and athletics.School-Community RelationsAttends and serves as school liaison at all Athletic Booster Club meetings.Represents the school in all athletic business at league, conference, Section and State meetings.Maintains working relationships with parents, other school districts and agencies that provide programs and/or services for health, physical education and interscholastic sports. Participates in a program of public relations to further community understanding and support for physical education, health and interscholastic sports programs.Budget and FacilitiesPrepares interscholastic sports and physical education budgets and authorizes interscholastic sports purchases.Supervises the inventory of supplies and equipment.Makes recommendations to the Director of Facilities and Groundskeeper and the School Business Administrator concerning maintenance, repair and improvement of athletic facilities and equipment. Coordinates use of athletic facilities.AUTHORITYThe director of physical education, athletics and health reports directly to the superintendent of schools, has a staff relationship with district administrators and a line relationship with all athletic, physical education, health education and health-related staff.Candidates must possess a valid School District Administrator and K-12 Physical Education certificate.Apply on OLAS
