In partnership with families and our community, the district’s mission is to promote confidence, inspire a passion for learning, and to prepare students to become responsible global citizens.QUALIFICATIONS:- NYS SDA/SDL Certification - NYSED Fingerprinting requirementsCHARACTERISTICS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:Several years of experience in Special EducationCurrent knowledge of best practices in educating student with disabilities in the continuum of special educationAbility to effectively facilitate group decision making processesThorough knowledge of current federal and state regulations governing CSE and Section 504 and special education grantsHighly effective written and verbal communication skillsThorough knowledge of NYSED exiting credentials, graduation requirements and demonstrated experience with transition planning for students with disabilitiesAbility to work effectively and collaboratively with parents, teachers, students and other district leadersPrevious experience as a CSE Chairperson preferredRESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Supervise and facilitate the implementation of all special education programsMonitor the implementation of individual education plansAssist in hiring, supervising, and evaluating Special Education staffDevelop and implement the special education budgetCoordination and partnership with districts, families and outside agencies, providing support to building principals in the areas of CSE meetings, programs and related services, IEP development and implementation, manifestation hearings, student intakes and K-12 professional development opportunitiesProvide leadership in the planning and development of curriculum, programs, and professional development as it relates to special educationEFFECTIVE: July 1, 2024
