Mohonasen is looking for a dedicated High School Counselor who is passionate about helping students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This role is ideal for someone who values student wellness, encourages a positive school environment, and helps students prepare for college and careers.Main ResponsibilitiesStudent Counseling & SupportProvide one-on-one and group counseling for academic, emotional, and social needs.Teach coping skills, relationship building, and emotional growth.Ensure student privacy and ethical counseling practices.Academic GuidanceHelp students plan their courses and meet graduation goals.Create customized academic paths.Track progress and work with teachers to offer support.College & Career PrepAssist with college applications and financial aid.Organize career-related activities like job shadows and internships.Host events such as college fairs and career panels.Mental Health & Crisis SupportRespond to students in crisis with care.Work with staff and outside agencies for referrals and safety plans.Conduct risk assessments and help implement safety protocols.Advocacy & InclusionEnsure all students have access to needed resources.Work with families and staff to build support plans.Promote a safe and respectful school culture.504/IEP TeamworkAttend 504/IEP meetings for assigned students.Make sure student accommodations are appropriate and effective.Program DevelopmentCreate programs on mental health, bullying prevention, and college/career readiness.Use data to improve services.Record Keeping & ComplianceKeep accurate and confidential counseling records.Follow district, state, and ethical guidelines (FERPA, IDEA, ASCA).Professional DevelopmentStay up to date with school counseling best practices through training and professional development.QualificationsRequired:Master’s Degree in School CounselingValid NYS School Counselor CertificationPreferred:Experience with college and career counselingTraining in crisis and trauma supportStrong communication, organization, and data skillsA proactive and preventive approach to student support
