The Mineola School District has a vacancy for a Special Education Teacher and 15:1:2 Self-Contained class. NYS certification in Special Education All Grades, English 7-12 and Social Studies 7-12 required Successful Special Education training and teaching experience preferred Responsibilities Possess outstanding communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with others in multiple settings Proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with all members of the school community Assesses the developmental level of students using a standardized assessment tool, as well as conduct on-going assessment Plan and implement an instructional program which meets the individual age-appropriate educational needs of each child and is based on the designated curriculum of the program. Writes IEP (for special needs children), progress notes and lesson plans. Organize and maintain an environment which facilitates children’s learning, including use of space, selection of materials, scheduling and behavior management. Direct classroom support staff in the assessment, planning and carrying out of the educational program Confer with related service staff where appropriate to ensure the implementation of therapy goals (OT, PT and speech) in the classroom Develop and maintain positive interpersonal communications with staff and other professionals, maintain positive social-emotional climate which enhances the performance of staff and self-concept of children Works with parents/guardians through informal communications Share knowledge of children with other professionals in order to meet the child's educational needs at team meetings and School District CPSE/CSE meetings.
