Director of Special Education, PK to Age 22 The Malverne Union Free School District is seeking an outstanding educational leader for the position of Director of Special Education, effective July 1, 2026. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership for the district’s special education programs and services, ensuring that all students with disabilities receive high-quality, equitable, and inclusive educational opportunities. The Director will work collaboratively with district and building leaders, faculty, staff, families, and community partners to support student achievement and success. Minimum Requirements: Proven experience as an effective educational leader with expertise in special education programs and services; Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing special education, including IDEA, Section 504, and NYSED Part 200 regulations; Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships and effectively collaborate with students, families, staff, and community agencies; Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; Experience supervising and evaluating professional staff; New York State Certification as School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) Performance Responsibilities: Provide leadership and oversight for all district special education programs and services to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations; Chair Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meetings and ensure student-centered decision making; Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans; Supervise, support, and evaluate special education teachers, related service providers (speech and language therapists and occupational therapists), school psychologists, teacher assistants, and support personnel; Collaborate with building and district administrators to align special education services with district goals and instructional initiatives; Monitor student performance data and program effectiveness to inform decision making and continuous improvement efforts; Coordinate and oversee out-of-district placements and conduct site visits to ensure appropriate programming and services; Represent the district in mediation, impartial hearings, and other special education proceedings as needed; Foster inclusive educational opportunities and support access to academic, extracurricular, athletic, and community-based experiences for students with disabilities; Plan and facilitate professional development related to compliance, instructional practices, inclusion, and student support services; Serve as a liaison to families, community organizations, and outside agencies to strengthen partnerships and support student success; Collect, analyze, and report required state and federal special education data; Participate in district leadership teams and contribute to strategic planning and organizational improvement efforts; Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
