The Miller Place UFSD is seeking aDistrict-wide Maintenance Mechanic III – CarpenterThorough knowledge of the practices, materials, tools and methods of the assigned craft or specialty area; thorough knowledge of the pertinent rules, regulations and codes which are applicable to the assigned craft or specialty area; thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work; skill in the use and care of tools, materials and equipment of the trade; ability to understand and work from general instructions, building specifications, blueprints or sketches; ability to make time, labor and material estimates; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Typical Work ActivitiesCraftsman level work in carpentryPerforms general carpentry work in the construction, alteration and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, and furniturePerforms skilled work in a carpentry shop operating power saw, joiner’s, wood lathes, drills, drill presses, and planers MaintenancePlan and lay out projects which includes estimating time and material costsAdditional Job DutiesAssists with HVAC work as neededAssists in masonry repairs as needed and caulking (such as fire caulking)Assists with plumbing work as neededAssists with electrical work as neededAssists with window and door repairs and installation as neededAssists with snow removal as neededMinimum Qualifications:Either:(a) Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in one of the craft areas, and two (2) years of experience as a carpenter to which the incumbent will be assigned; or(b) Four (4) years of experience as a carpenter to which the incumbent will be assigned; or,(c) An equivalent combination of the above education, or training, and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b); or,(d) One (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic IINecessary Special Requirement:At the time of appointment and during employment in the title, candidates may be required to possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle to be operated.
