Millbrook Central School District is seeking a passionate and engaging Grade 6 Science Teacher to inspire our students' curiosity about the natural world. The successful candidate will foster a dynamic and hands-on learning environment, guiding students through the New York State Science Learning Standards and developing their scientific inquiry skills.Position – Probationary Elementary Teacher Grade 6- Concentration in Science:Full-time, tenure track position beginning for the 2025-2026 school yearCertification:NYS Elementary Education Certification or General Science/Middle Grades 5-9 ExtensionDual certification preferred with NYS Special Education Bilingual Candidates preferredResponsibilities:Design and deliver engaging and age-appropriate science lessons for Grade 6 students, aligned with the New York State Science Learning Standards.Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, critical thinking, and collaborative learning.Implement a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.Conduct hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and projects to enhance scientific understanding.Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to support their growth.Have experience with multiple methods of progressing monitoring and preparing data in a visual form for lesson design in a team setting Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student success.Integrate technology effectively into science instruction.Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with best practices in science education.Enjoy working with young children and bring energy and excitement to the classroom each dayDemonstrate ability to use both formal and summative assessments to plan differentiated learning activities, interventions, and enrichments that are diagnostic and prescriptive;Utilize a student centered, inquiry-based, multi-sensory approach to teaching Incorporate the Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards into to enhance & augment technology-rich instruction; Provide equitable and culturally competent learning practices;Qualifications:New York State Elementary Education Certification OR General Science/Middle Grades 5-9 Extension.Dual certification with New York State Special Education is preferred.Bilingual candidates are preferred.Demonstrated knowledge of the New York State Science Learning Standards.Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a structured and supportive learning environment.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.A commitment to fostering a love of science in young learners.Preferred Attributes:Experience teaching Grade 6 science.Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary connections and real-world applications of science.A collaborative spirit and a willingness to contribute to the school community.
