Posting # 26-095ANTICIPATED VACANCY NOTICE DATE: January 14, 2026POSITION TITLE: Director of Pupil ServicesASSIGNMENT: Pupil Services OfficeCERTIFICATION: Valid NYS Certification START DATE: As Soon As Possible MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Valid NYS School Administrator and Supervisor certification, NYS School District Administrator certification, or eligibilityMinimum of five years’ experience in educationStrong commitment to childrenDemonstrated ability to effectively administer student services and special education programs, and to work with parents and community groups and agenciesKnowledge of the New York State Learning Standards and effective classroom instruction with students of varying abilitiesStrong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skillsSuch alternatives to the above as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptableSupervisory experience preferred PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Leadership & Strategic PlanningCollaborate with the superintendent and executive leadership to develop and implement a vision, mission, and strategic plan for pupil services aligned with district goals.Monitor trends in laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance and program effectiveness.Special Education and IEP OversightOversee and coordinate Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) activities, ensuring compliance with timelines and quality standards.Review and audit Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) weekly, reporting non-compliance and ensuring updates and placement accuracy.Supervise placements including in- and out-of-district, pre-K screenings, and alternative educational settings.Staff Supervision & Professional DevelopmentHire, evaluate, and provide ongoing feedback to staff—special education teachers, teaching assistants, teacher aides, counselors, social workers, psychologists, speech therapists, clerical staff, etc.—and facilitate department meetings.Plan, deliver, or coordinate professional development and technical support for staff and school building teams. Student Support ProgramsDesign, coordinate, and monitor districtwide comprehensive guidance programs for K–12, addressing students’ social, emotional, and academic needs.Oversee wraparound services and collaborate with community organizations to support student well-being.Administer pupil personnel services including health, mental health, attendance, safety, and alternative education services. Compliance, Policy & Record ManagementEnsure compliance with federal and state laws (IDEA, Section?504, FERPA, HIPAA) pertaining to services, enrollment, student data, and confidentiality.Regularly review, update, and recommend district policies, procedures, and guidelines related to pupil services.Maintain accurate records in SchoolTool and manual systems; report to board, state agencies, parents, and stakeholders as needed. Budgeting & Resource AllocationDevelop, manage, and oversee budgets for special education, guidance services, and broader pupil personnel services; pursue grants to support program funding.Select instructional materials, equipment, and staff resources necessary to support pupil personnel services delivery.Communication & CoordinationServe as liaison with district leaders, building principals, staff, parents, and community organizations to foster strong partnerships.Respond to administrative, legal, and compliance inquiries from various entities.Safety, Discipline & Alternative EducationOversee districtwide student safety, attendance, and risk management, including alternative education and discipline programs.Supervise programs addressing homelessness, foster care, homebound instruction, truancy, expulsions, and other special needs populations.Performs other duties which may be assigned or required by law, code, regulation, board policy or superintendent.
