Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field, including or supplemented by at least 18 credit hours in accounting and one (1) year of experience in auditing, municipal budgeting, or financial planning and analysis, or closely related field; ORD. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of "A" and "B" above.POSITION CLASS DEFINITION:Essential nature of work, degree of difficulty and responsibility.This position involves responsibility for maintaining the accounting records of a school district according to established accounting procedures and practices. The incumbent oversees financial transactions, payroll procedures, installation and maintenance of accounting systems, and preparation of reports and fiscal analyses.Work is performed under general direction of a Senior Accountant or other higher-level employee with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgement in planning and carrying out assignments. Supervision is exercised over clerical support staff. The incumbent does related work as required.PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:Typical activities characteristic of the class.-- Performs general accounting duties such as maintaining a general ledger and making journal entries;-- Prepares and/or reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations;-- Advises supervisors regarding appropriate balances and fund transfers, trial balances, and reconciliation of bank statements and accounts;-- Develops and implements new accounting procedures and systems in order to provide a clear audit trail of financial transactions;-- Oversees the payroll operation to ensure accuracy and completeness;-- Prepares a variety of tax, financial and statistical reports and analyses to comply with State and Federal requirements and to provide pertinent information for decision making;-- Assists in the organization and preparation of the annual budget including estimation of revenues and appropriations;-- Keeps informed of economic trends and advises officials regarding financial planning and investments;-- May coordinate the introduction and maintenance of data processing operations in relation to accounting functions and train other staff in using the data processing systems;-- Makes recommendations to superiors concerning ways of reducing operating costs and increasing revenues based on knowledge of reimbursement formulas, market trends, operating procedures, and legislative developments;-- Participates in meetings concerning equipment purchases, capital construction, and other expenditures impacting municipal finances;-- May supervise billing and accounts receivable functions for the organization;-- Has primary responsibility for grant accounting and reporting.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:- Full-time, 12-month position- Provisional/Probationary position- $65,000-$70,000 per year- Benefits as per contractAPPLICATION DEADLINE: Open Until FilledAll candidates must submit a completed instructional support application (found @ www.mexicocsd.org), listing 3 professional references, resume, and a letter of interest to Shawn Kimball, Human Resources Specialist, 16 Fravor Road Suite A, Mexico, New York 13114.
