GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The 1:1 Para-Professional performs non-instructional duties in a classroom setting under the supervision of the classroom teacher as well as the teacher assistant. The 1:1 Para-Professional is assigned to a specific student and will be given assignments in coordination with the students IEP. This position is contingent upon student enrollment. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise students at breakfast and lunch each day Ensure that students are always accompanied by an adult and are directly supervised as they move about the school building and school campus Ensure that the classroom is left in clean and orderly condition at the end of the school day Actively support the teacher in addressing student behavioral needs Assess students for signs of emotional difficulties, abuse, or neglect and report these to the teacher, class social worker or school administrator Agree to share particular talents and skills to enhance the school program Assist students in the class with medication during the school day in accord with school policies and procedures Assist in oversight and technical operations of language and/or computer laboratories Assist in physical care tasks and health related activities as appropriate Assist in the setting up of laboratory equipment, conduct experiments, and perform limited reviews of student laboratory reports Reading to and playing audio-visual materials for children in lower grades Assist in proctoring and other tasks related to the administration of examinations Assist in the correction of test papers, recording grades, maintaining of files and preparing statistical reports Manage records, materials and equipment Participate in the school's professional development program Assist and supervise students during arrival and dismissal processes Assist the classroom teacher with clerical tasks such as student homework collection and correction, report card assistance, parent contact, and incident reporting Develop a supportive relationship with your students and with their parents and guardians And all other job related duties as assigned by the Martin de Porres School administration QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High School Diploma EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1 year experience working in a school setting or in a community activity involving children and/or adolescents Minimum of 1 year experience in a foster care agency, hospital setting or a related human services agency SKILLS & ABILITIES: Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with classroom teacher and teacher assistant Demonstrated ability to appropriately supervise students in a classroom setting and while transitioning around the school complex Demonstrated ability to perform the clerical tasks assigned by the classroom teacher and teacher assistant Willingness to be involved in a program of professional development Demonstrated ability to be an active and involved partner in the classroom process Demonstrated ability to work with students in the classroom setting especially when some may be behaviorally challenging ===================================================================== This position description contains the major responsibilities required to perform this job.
