GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Para-Social will support The Martin De Porres School for Exceptional Children by adhering to our mission ( To educate children experiencing emotional and behavioral problems) our vision ( Through education, every child entrusted to our care will have the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential) and our core value of respect, integrity, leadership and service. The Para-Social Services worker is responsible for providing assistance to all school personnel with coordination of services within the school and from outside agencies to better serve the needs of the children at Martin De Porres. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide families with information and direct assistance in seeking needed emergency services Maintain contact with out-of-school service providers and link follow-up and advocacy services as deemed appropriate and necessary Ensure that home visits are made in a timely manner and at a mutually agreeable time and place Provide administrative support and presence when a student requires emergency assistance through the 911 system in existence (hospital, police, medical support) Provide contact with a student's family as often as required to ensure a defined treatment plan is in place for each student as directed by administration Facilitate contact with a family to encourage better school attendance Assist with the planning and implementing of Transitional Supports for older adolescent leaving Martin De Porres School Assist with the Intake Screening process for new student enrollees as directed by the Intake coordinator Assist the Social Service Supervisor in communicating with various City, County, State, and other agencies And all other job-related duties as assigned by the Martin de Porres School administration SUPERVISES: Students QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent and related experience BA Degree Social Work, Education, or another related field preferred EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children or adults with disabilities Minimum of one year working in a school setting on the Elementary, Middle or High school age level SKILLS & ABILITIES: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with special needs students Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the parents / guardians of special needs students Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a special education day school setting Demonstrated ability to effectively advocate for students in your care Demonstrated ability to ensure student emotional health and safety is guaranteed Demonstrated ability to follow administrative directives and school mandates Demonstrated ability to communicate with classroom staff Willingness to serve students beyond the confines of a regular school day Willingness to assist when a student’s needs emergency assistance through the 911 system (hospital, police, psychiatric intervention) Willingness to visits parents / guardians beyond the geography of the school ==================================================================== This position description contains the major responsibilities required to perform this job.
