The speech and language teacher is responsible to provide the speech mandates for any student needing such service as identified on the child's Individual Education Plan as well as for providing any necessary speech evaluations or updates. Speech services can be provided on an individual or group basis and can also be provided in a separate location or in the classroom at the teacher's discretion. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide individual and/or group speech and language sessions according to the schedule worked out with the Supervising Teacher in consultation with the School PrincipalProvide speech services to each student as mandated by their IEPProvide attendance card and log note documentation in support of the speech and language services provided to our studentsFormulate annual goals and short term objectives for our students that can be presented at annual review time to the Committee on Special EducationConsult with classroom teachers on language techniques appropriate for classroom useAssess and screen possible candidates for speech and language therapy as directed by the school administrationProvide curriculum collaboration as to language activities used in speech therapyReduce any disruption to the regular class and school routine to a minimumProvide an annual report of student progress with recommendations at annual review time as to continuance of termination of speech as a related serviceAssist classroom staff with adaptations needed for any student with the requirement for English as a Second Language servicesPerform a thorough speech and language evaluation as directed by school administrationAssist parents / guardians in understanding the speech and language needs of their special needs childrenAssist in the intake screening process as determined by potential student speech needsAnd all other job related duties as assigned by the Martin de Porres School administrationSUPERVISES:Speech / Language InternQUALIFICATIONS:Master's Degree in Speech & Language TherapistNYS Certification as a Speech & Language TherapistEXPERIENCE:Experience as a speech / language teacher or equivalent job activities with language impaired children / adolescentsSKILLS & ABILITIES:Demonstrated ability to provide the level of speech and language services needed by a special needs adolescent populationDemonstrated ability to work cooperatively with classroom teaching staffDemonstrated ability to effectively write speech and language reportsDemonstrated ability to effectively write speech and language evaluationsDemonstrated ability to communicate and represent our students at annual review meetings conducted by the Committee on Special EducationDemonstrated ability to provide the level of written data required to support the level of speech and language services provided to each student at our schoolDemonstrated ability to assist parents and guardians in understanding the speech and language needs of their children and developing ways for them to influence home activities that will enhance speech and language growth for the child====================================================================This position description contains the major responsibilities required to perform this job.
