The Mechanicville City School District is seeking to fill a full time Network Technician, to begin as soon as available. The work will include responsibility for the installation and maintenance of Local Area Network (LAN) components, including wired and wireless technologies and the District’s fleet of Chromebooks and iPads, maintaining the district’s on-premise and cloud servers such as DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft AD, and district applications and software such as student filtering and the Google Management Console. This position will be a direct report to the district Director of Technology. End-user (staff and student) support will be an essential daily component of the position. Independent judgment in carrying out details of the work is encouraged for personal and professional growth. The successful candidate will be a member of a small district IT team that is committed to the “No Silo” rule. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Installs, modifies and maintains Local Area Network (LAN) components including computer hardware and software, cables, printers, and drivers;Configures, repairs, and rebuilds computers, mobile devices, and servers;Instructs and/or assists end-users regarding the use of hardware, software and peripheral equipment including touch screen boards in classrooms, account creation and maintenance, diagnosing and resolving password issues, and e-mail and printing related problems either in person or over the phone;Performs network backups and file restorations as required;Contacts commercial vendors and WSWHE BOCES regarding hardware/software problems and upgrades as required;Orders new network equipment and/or software and checks filled orders for completeness, accuracy and inventorying when authorized and as required;Creates and maintains a variety of records and reports related to network and device installation, maintenance and user support activities;Attends training classes and seminars to remain current in the field.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:Good knowledge of LAN hardware, software and peripheral equipment Good knowledge of the principles and practices of installing, modifying and maintaining local area network hardware, software and peripheral equipment;Good knowledge of the operation of personal computer and mobile device hardware and software;Good knowledge of student filtering platforms and the Google Management ConsoleWorking knowledge of common K-12 requirements such as EdLaw2D, priorities and initiatives as they relate to information technology;Ability to install, update and maintain (Cisco) LAN hardware, software and peripheral equipment;Ability to diagnose hardware (Windows) and software problems and devise a resolution for the problem;Ability to understand and interpret complex oral instructions and/or written directions;Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;Ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer service;Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Minimum Qualifications: Either:(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s degree in computer science or computer information systems, or closely related field and one (1) year of experience installing, modifying and maintaining a local area network; or(b) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience as defined in (a); or(c) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
