Notice of Anticipated Vacancy June 29, 2026 Leave Replacement Special Education Teacher Shelter Rock This position is available September 1, 2026 Position Description: The successful candidate is a motivated, engaging, and student-centered educator with demonstrated experience supporting students with a range of disabilities in both integrated co-teaching (ICT) settings and special class environments. The ideal candidate fosters inclusive practices, collaborates effectively with colleagues and families, and is committed to meeting the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all learners. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assessing students’ abilities to develop individualized lesson plans aligned with IEP goals, using differentiated instruction and assistive technology to meet diverse learning needs. Delivering instruction in small-group, one-on-one, and whole-class settings, supporting students with significant learning, language, and behavioral disabilities. Monitoring academic and behavioral progress, maintaining accurate documentation, and adjusting instruction and supports based on data and reflection. Creating a structured, inclusive, and positive classroom environment that promotes student independence, engagement, and social interaction. Preparing students for successful transitions to the next grade level by supporting skill development and goal attainment. Collaborating with general education teachers, therapists, and related service providers to ensure a cohesive and individualized approach to instruction. Communicating regularly with parents and guardians to share progress, address concerns, and strengthen home-school connections. Participating in IEP meetings, contributing to the development of individualized goals and plans, and engaging in ongoing professional learning to stay current on best practices in special education. Qualifications: New York State Dual Certification: Elementary and Students with Disabilities, Birth to Grade 2 and Grades 1-6. Reading certification and Wilson experience is a plus. Salary as per MEA contract.
