Qualifications: New York State Certification Social Studies, and SDA/SDL Minimum of five years as a social studies teacher or other administrative experience. The Coordinator of Social Studies shall be directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and the Superintendent of Schools. The Coordinator of Social Studies must have a strong understanding of best practices in teaching and learning. The Coordinator of Social Studies will supervise the social studies department, assist in assessing staffing needs, oversee the K-12 social studies curriculum, coordinating recruiting, hiring and supporting of new staff. SPECIFIC SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of New York State K-12 standards and assessments; Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills; Skilled with data analysis and informed decision making; Ability to gain rapport and confidence of all segments of the school community; Designs, schedules and coordinates professional development related to Social Studies Instruction (K-12); Evaluates and analyzes student achievement data for department placement and instructional program; Performs classroom observations, provides feedback for instructional improvement; Leads the social studies department in establishing goals.
