The Mamaroneck Union Free School District, a proud member of the League of Innovative Schools, seeks educators who exemplify ingenuity and foster academic excellence, bringing an equity-minded, intellectually curious approach to their work. Our faculty and staff collaborate to personalize instruction, mentor students and colleagues, and continuously deepen their professional expertise. We value differences as strengths and strive to cultivate a shared ethic of care, high expectations, and collective responsibility across our schools. JOB DESCRIPTION: Hommocks Middle School is looking for a creative, forward-thinking librarian to reimagine the middle school library. We are looking for someone who sees the library as the heartbeat of the school and will create a space that sparks curiosity, where every student feels they belong, and where information literacy becomes a launchpad for lifelong learning. If you're excited to blend innovative programming, digital literacy, and a love of books into a library environment that middle schoolers and their teachers love, come help us build it. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement a comprehensive library media program that supports the school's curriculum and promotes information literacy. Collaborate with HMX faculty to develop a vision for a modern library media center. Create a warm and engaging library environment that encourages reading and learning, and that is safe, welcoming, and affirming for all students. Teach sections of the school's media literacy course, and push into classrooms to build student and teacher capacity in research, digital, and media fluency. Partner with curriculum, student support, and teaching staff to weave library resources and information literacy into classroom instruction — and to personalize learning through enrichment and intervention. Provide instruction to students on research skills, digital literacy, and the ethical use of information. Plan, prepare, deliver, and assess culturally responsive lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and engagement. Demonstrate skill and preparation in working with students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Curate and maintain a print and digital collection that reflects student interests and curriculum needs. Facilitate educational library programs and enrichment student groups during the school day, including open-access lunch periods. Engage families and community partners, including the PTA and public library, to provide meaningful literacy experiences, increase access to resources, and support the academic and personal growth of all students. Assist students and staff in locating and using library resources and technology. Oversee the library's technology — computers, tablets, and other equipment — keeping it current and classroom-ready. Keep accurate records and reporting on library materials and usage. Maintain accurate records of library materials and prepare reports as needed. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Strong knowledge of children's literature, media and information literacy instruction, and current educational technology Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and administrators Proficiency in using library management systems and educational technology In-depth knowledge of social-emotional learning approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate a classroom that is affirming and welcoming Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with library and educational trends. Possession of appropriate New York State Certification as a Library Media Specialist or other such experience or credential(s) deemed appropriate REPORTS TO: Building Principal Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
