REQUIREMENTS: Must have a strong knowledge of coaching principles and the technical aspects of the sport. The coach should also have a commitment to student athlete development and a strong interest in the student as a person. DESCRIPTION: Junior varsity coach is responsible for all aspects of the jv team, including, but not limited to: Attend preseason meeting Facilitate JV & Varsity basketball tryouts with input from varsity coaches Develop a rubric of skills for a 3-5 day tryout Work collaboratively with the varsity coaches on philosophies, facilities management and schedules Strong ability to clearly communicate expectations with all stakeholders, i.e. administration, athletes and families Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators Adhere to NYSPHSAA, Section 1, and school policies & regulations Cooperatively plan, organize, and implement effective practice and game plans Prioritize the safety of all players on and off the court Serve as a role model for players, and encourage sportsmanship and team unity Assist with equipment, including issuing and collecting equipment, and ensuring it is used properly and safely Attend all games and practices, and attend required coaches' clinics and meetings Record and inventory uniforms and equipment Obtain mandated fingerprint clearance. REPORTS TO: Director & Assistant Director of Health, PE & Athletics REQUIREMENTS Experience: Previous coaching experience, with high school-aged athletes Knowledge of NYS and NFHS boys’ basketball rules and regulations. Certifications: Must hold a NYS teaching license or NYS coaching license in basketball Valid CPR/AED/First Aid (in compliance with NYSED) Child Abuse, Violence Prevention, Mandated Reporting and DASA SALARY: In accordance with the Agreement between the Board of Education and Mamaroneck Teachers’ Association Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
