POSITION : VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY HEAD COACH LOCATION : MAMARONECK UFSD POSITION AVAILABLE : FALL 2026 The Mamaroneck Union Free School District, a proud member of the League of Innovative Schools, seeks educators who exemplify ingenuity and foster academic excellence, bringing an equity-minded, intellectually curious approach to their work. RESPONSIBILITIES : Varsity coach is responsible for all aspects of the varsity team, including but not limited to: Strong ability to clearly communicate expectations with all stakeholders, i.e. administration, athletes, and families Serve as the primary point of contact for athletes, parents, and coaches within the cross country program as well as school administrators Attend all meets, practices, and required coaches’ meetings Facilitate parent meetings and preseason communication Develop philosophies, training plans, and schedules for the varsity cross country program Communicate and facilitate a rubric for a 3-5 day tryout/process for team placement Create and facilitate daily practice plans emphasizing endurance training, race strategy, teamwork, and sportsmanship Work collaboratively with other athletic programs regarding facility usage and seasonal scheduling Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture/environment that prioritizes safety while encouraging hard work, discipline, and accountability Serve as a role model for athletes and promote sportsmanship and team unity both on and off the course Monitor athlete progress and support individual goal setting and development throughout the season Assist with equipment management, including issuing, collecting, and maintaining uniforms and team equipment Coordinate course, facility, and transportation needs with maintenance, athletic department staff, and school employees Record and inventory uniforms and equipment before and after each season Adhere to NYSPHSAA, Section 1, and school policies and regulations REPORTS TO : Director & Assistant Director of Health, PE & Athletics REQUIREMENTS Experience: Previous coaching experience, with high school-aged athletes Knowledge of NYS and NFHS cross country rules and regulations. Certifications: NYS teaching license and/or NYS coaching license in cross country Valid CPR/AED/First Aid (in compliance with NYSED) Child Abuse, Violence Prevention, Mandated Reporting and DASA SALARY : In accordance with the Agreement between the Board of Education and the Mamaroneck Teachers’ Association Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
