RESPONSIBILITIES : Varsity coach is responsible for all aspects of the varsity fencing program, including but not limited to: Strong ability to clearly communicate expectations with all stakeholders, i.e. administration, athletes, and families Serve as the primary point of contact for athletes, parents, and coaches within the fencing program as well as school administrators Attend all matches, practices, tournaments, and required coaches’ meetings Facilitate parent meetings and preseason communication Develop philosophies, training plans, and schedules for the varsity fencing program Communicate and facilitate a rubric for team selection and athlete evaluation Create and facilitate daily practice plans emphasizing technical skill development, conditioning, strategy, discipline, and sportsmanship Work collaboratively with athletic department staff and other programs regarding facility scheduling and seasonal planning Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture/environment that prioritizes safety while encouraging hard work, accountability, and teamwork Serve as a role model for athletes and promote sportsmanship and team unity both during competition and within the school community Instruct and monitor proper weapon handling, safety procedures, and adherence to fencing rules and regulations Assist with equipment management, including issuing, collecting, inspecting, and maintaining uniforms, weapons, and protective gear Coordinate facility needs, strip setup, scoring equipment, and repairs with maintenance and school employees Record and inventory uniforms and equipment before and after each season Monitor athlete progress and support individual development and competitive readiness throughout the season Adhere to NYSPHSAA, Section 1, and school policies and regulations REPORTS TO : Director & Assistant Director of Health, PE & Athletics REQUIREMENTS Experience: Previous coaching experience, with high school-aged athletes Knowledge of NYS and NFHS fencing rules and regulations. Certifications : NYS teaching license and/or NYS coaching license in fencing Valid CPR/AED/First Aid (in compliance with NYSED) Child Abuse, Violence Prevention, Mandated Reporting and DASA SALARY : In accordance with the Agreement between the Board of Education and the Mamaroneck Teachers’ Association Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
